Lewis Hamilton dominates FP1 at 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton dominates in the first free Friday practice session at 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir on Friday.
Hamilton set the best time of 1 minute and 33.572 seconds in FP1 and remained ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who set his best lap time of 1 minute and 33.877 seconds.
Paul di Resta of Force India came third on the timesheets with the time of 1 minute 34.150 seconds after running the car on soft tyres.
Di Resta was followed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes who set his best time of 1 minute and 34.249 seconds. Moreover, it will be important to mention that the German driver secured his first ever pole leading to a victory in the third race held at Shanghai International
Circuit in China.
The temperature of the track increased towards the end of the practice session while many cars faced the issue of tyre degradations. Furthermore, many drivers struggled at turn 10 and ran wide.
Hamilton’s teammate, Jenson Button came fifth on the timesheets with his best lap time of 1 minute and 34.277 seconds after completing 14 laps. The British driver was followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who set his best lap of 1 minute and 34.344
seconds and covered 26 laps.
Hulkenberg remained ahead of legendary Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who set the seventh best time of 1 minute and 34.483 seconds. The seven-time world champion was followed by Mark Webber of Red Bull who came eighth with his best time of 1 minute and 34.552
seconds.
The Australian driver was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus-Renault who set the ninth best time of 1 minute and 34.609 seconds.
Raikkonen remained ahead of his teammate, Romain Grosjean who set his best time of 1 minute and 34.847 seconds and came tenth on timesheets. Grosjean was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari who after covering 22 laps managed to set the eleventh best
time of 1 minute and 35.024 seconds.
The Mexican driver stayed ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams who completed 25 laps and came 12th on the timesheets. Maldonado was followed by the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari finished at 13th after setting his best lap time of 1 minute and 35.436
seconds.
Maldonado’s teammate Valtteri Bottas came 14th after his best time of 1 minute and 35.497 seconds. Alonso’s teammate, Felipe who has been seen struggling with his performance in the season so far set the fifteenth best time of 1 minute and 35.719 seconds
in FP1.
Massa remained ahead of the Japanese driver, Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who covered 24 laps and came 16th on the timesheets after setting his best time of 1 minute and 35.929 seconds.
