Lewis Hamilton has expressed his love and affection for McLaren and has said goodbye to his home team as he looks forward to join Mercedes in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to end at the conclusion of this year and he has signed a new deal with the Silver Arrows for the coming season.
Although, his contract with McLaren is until December 31, 2012, but he is still allowed to have conversation with the race engineers of Mercedes so as to become well acquainted with his new team before the start of the next season.
Additionally, the British driver is going to replace the record championship holder, Michael Schumacher who has taken retirement from the sport and will drive alongside Nico Rosberg in the coming season.
He has been in the British squad for the last six years and has developed a very good relationship with everyone.
The 2008 world champion has said that he will always cherish the moments which he has spent in McLaren and showed great love for his team.
“My time at McLaren has been fantastic,” Hamilton told staff at the McLaren Technology Centre. “When I arrived in Formula One in 2007, I now realise I never really grasped what I was taking on. Ron [Dennis] had told me: 'Don't be surprised if you're 0.5sec
slower than Fernando [Alonso]', and I just smiled because I knew it wouldn't be the case. But, even so, that year was very hard, for many reasons.”
“You were brilliant - you still are. I have so much affection and love for this team. And that's why McLaren has always felt like home,” he added.
It will be important to note that the Briton has not ruled out the possibility of his return to McLaren after his term with the Brackley based team.
The 27-year-old has always been deemed as one of the most talented drivers in the sport and has delivered some remarkable performances in his career so far. Let’s see how he performs with the German driver in the coming year.
