Lewis Hamilton eyes up championship after 2012 Australian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton eyes up the 2012 championship title after claiming the pole position at qualifying and securing the third position in the first Grand Prix held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday.
During the last season, the British driver struggled because he could not manage his personal and professional life well.
Nonetheless, he said that he was ready to make the necessary sacrifice in his private life this year, in order to make his mark stronger in F1 while bringing out the best in him.
Moreover, Hamilton is positive that he can challenge for the championship after his strong performance at the first race during the last week.
However, Hamilton could not be able to convert his pole into a victory in the first GP which was claimed by his teammate, Jenson Button while the pair of Red Bull Racing drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber finished at second and fourth positions.
The 2008 world champion remained unable to give details concerning his performance gap with Button. Nevertheless, he said that he could hit back hard in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
“I know this is a car I can definitely challenge for the title with,” Hamilton was quoted by the Daily Telegraph. “Jenson proved it. He had a fantastic race and it's definitely a good start to the year that both of us finished on the podium and in the points.”
In addition, he said that Red Bull were considerably fast in the season opener while he said that there would still be a tight fight amongst the contenders in the season ahead.
“It's still going to be a close season because the Red Bulls are massively quick, and God knows where they came from on Sunday. We're still going to be able to attack, but for us to start at the front is a pretty good way forward,” he added.
Besides, he said that he was prepared for the title fight and was keen to make the necessary improvements in his performance in the free practice sessions before the second race.
