Lewis Hamilton feels contended with his decision about moving to Mercedes in 2013 – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that after swinging like a pendulum between the two bids he had from his current team and Mercedes, he is feeling contended with his decision to move to the Silver Arrows in 2013.
Hamilton has recently announced that he is going to join the Brackley based team in the coming year as the replacement of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher who has just decided to take retirement at the end of this season.
Meanwhile, there have been many discussions going around that he has decided to change his team just because of money. However, the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn has said that the 2008 world champion has joined their team just because he wants a
new challenge in his career and clarified that they hadn’t offered him any extra money as compared to the Woking based team.
On the other hand, Martin Whitmarsh, the team principal of McLaren has said that they have tried everything to keep their driver in team. Nonetheless, he wished Hamilton all the best for the future and said that they will surely provide the 27-year-old with
all the support which he may need to improve his performance in the remainder of the season.
Furthermore, Whitmarsh has said that they have signed a new deal with Sergio Perez of Sauber who will be driving as Jenson Button’s teammate in the next season.
Besides, the British driver said that although he found it very difficult to decide between the two teams, nonetheless, he is feeling contended with his decision and is positively looking forward to perform well in his career ahead.
“It has been very, very stressful,” Hamilton was quoted by the Daily Telegraph. “I've been with this team since I was 13 and met Ron [Dennis, McLaren chairman] when I was 10. My dream back then was to race for this team. It was a little bit like
a pendulum because one moment I would think, 'Let's go for it', the next I would think 'I'm going to stay'. That's why I took my time; because I wanted to make sure I stuck with one of [those feelings].”
