Lewis Hamilton feels optimistic about 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has expressed that he is feeling optimistic about 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is going to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
The Briton secured second podium finish in Spanish GP during the preceding year and followed the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
However, he said that they have more competent car in this season. Therefore, he expects to have a strong race in Barcelona. Nonetheless, he said that the competition will be tough as every contender will come well prepared for the race.
“Our performance at Barcelona during winter testing looked promising - but the form of the season is still very hard to read, so it's difficult to predict who'll be at the front next weekend,” he said. “Nonetheless, we had a great race there last year -
I pushed Sebastian [Vettel] all the way to the finish. I think we have a comparatively stronger car this year, so I hope we can have another strong race.”
Even though, he said that he expects a tight fight, nonetheless, he said that he is looking forward to perform at his best in the qualifying so as to take a strong start in the approaching race.
“I'll be hoping for a strong performance in qualifying in order to make it as straightforward as possible in the race,” he added.
The 2008 world champion has been quite consistent in the season so far. In the first two races held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he secured 3rd place finish after claiming pole in both the Grands Prix.
In the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China he came second in the qualifying but started the race from 7th grid position as he faced five-place grid penalty. Nonetheless, he managed to secure same third podium finish in the race.
Conversely, in the fourth race held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, after qualifying for 2nd place in the grid, he came 8th due to poor pit stop strategy.
Over and above, he is focusing to score reasonable points in each and every race in the season ahead in order to fight for the championship title.
