Lewis Hamilton focusing on consistency in forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is focusing to perform with consistency in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton took his first victory of the season in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10 and emerged as a seventh different winner in the season so far.
After winning the race, he expressed that his aim is to score reasonable points in each and every race in the season ahead so as to make his position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
“I'm definitely not going to change my approach, but I think it's working reasonably well so far,” he said. “I probably definitely had to be on limit today to catch two guys ahead, perhaps little bit more risky than in past but it is about consistency this
year. I think it will be about consistency. It's unbelievable to see just how close it is. We got win and 25 points and I only have two point lead, so it's incredible how close it is and will stay that close throughout the year. Again, it just highlights how
important consistency is.”
In addition, the British driver praised all the efforts of his team and expressed his gratitude towards them.
The 2008 world champion is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 88 points and he is just 2 points ahead of the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Moreover, he has been one of the most consistent drivers in the season until now as he secured
third podium finish in the first three grands prix.
Although, he struggled with the poor pit stop strategy in the fourth and sixth race in which he could only secure 8th and 5th place finish even after starting from competitive grid positions.
Furthermore, even though he topped the timesheets in the qualifying of the Spanish GP, however he failed to meet the minimum fuel requirement in the car before moving back to the pits and began from the end of the grid. Nonetheless, he still performed quite
convincingly and secured 8th place finish.
Over and above, he said that they are trying their best to make the significant preparations for the approaching races so as to fight for the championship title.
