Lewis Hamilton hits back at Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has hit back at Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel for his negative remarks about the Silver Arrows team after the Monaco GP.
The reigning world champion had qualified third on the grid in Monte Carlo and was unable to overtake the two Mercedes cars in front until Hamilton made a pit stop error and dropped down a couple of places.
However, the Briton’s teammate Nico Rosberg managed to maintain his lead and finished on top of the podium comfortably.
Following this victory, Vettel claimed that the Mercedes cars were too slow and they only managed to get a strong result because of the fact that there were hardly any overtaking opportunities in the narrow streets of Monte Carlo.
The triple world champion stated, “I was surprised by the slow pace of the opening laps, you expect two Silver Arrows in front of you and we had two buses in front going for a cruise.”
Hamilton was not pleased with such remarks and replied, “He [Vettel] has had the fastest car for the last four years, so it’s easy for him to say that. He’s got it easy. We are making our way up, we are learning, growing, improving with a car that has great
potential, so I don’t agree with him.”
Regardless of what rival teams say, Mercedes proved their dominance in the Monaco GP. Rosberg swept all the practice sessions before claiming pole for the race and then went onto secure the second victory of his career, which clearly shows that the car had
the ability to beat the best.
Although the German squad has been struggling with tyre wear issues, it did not affect their performance during the recently concluded event. Moreover, they conducted a private test with Pirelli in order to understand the situation better, which has drawn
a lot of criticism.
However, it is yet to be seen whether Mercedes have benefitted from the private session with the tyre manufacturers. The real picture will be clear in the Canadian GP, which is going to take place in the second week of June. If the race performance of the
team improves, it will definitely raise a lot of questions, which will be hard to answer.
