Lewis Hamilton hopeful of winning the United States Grand Prix on the new circuit – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton is ready to win the United States Grand Prix which will be taking place on the new Circuit of The Americas (CoTA) this weekend.
The CoTA was inaugurated by the former world F1 champion Mario Andretti, actor Patrick Dempsey and Lotus’ third driver Jerome D’Ambrosio last month. The last United States GP had taken place five years ago and Hamilton had been the driver to win it. The
driver is very excited about the race being added to the calendar once again and still remembers his race victory with pride. Hamilton had been successful at adding his second Grand Prix win to his career with that win and says that those were some good times.
The driver has been very frustrated with the team’s car reliability issues which have been the cause of his retirement from many races this season. He suffered a miserable race at Korea but was still able to score a single point. However, his agitation has
increased after he had to leave the race from lead position recently in Abu Dhabi as his car came to a sudden halt. Hamilton is ready to put those failures behind and is determined for the upcoming race.
“This is a new circuit, a new challenge and a new opportunity - I'm definitely looking to be the first grand prix winner at the Circuit of The Americas,” Hamilton said.
He is also very optimistic about the new track and cannot wait to try it out in real time.
“I think the Circuit of The Americas looks like it could also be the place that modern Formula 1 finally calls home,” said the McLaren driver. “I've only driven it on the computer and in the sim, but I think it's going to be a track that drivers enjoy, which
produces some great, close racing, and which fans will quickly love.”
Team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, is also looking forward to the race and has great expectations from his drivers. He says that Hamilton and teammate Jenson Button have had a disappointing race on the Yas Marina circuit even though they had a strong pace,
after which they must be even more enthusiastic to come out on top again.
