Lewis Hamilton hopes to achieve greatness like Ayrton Senna – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he takes inspiration from the Formula 1 legend, Ayrton Senna and hopes to achieve the same greatness which the Brazilian did before he died in an accident in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
Senna is arguably the best driver in the history of F1 and has been a great inspiration for all the drivers in the world of autosport. Hamilton, who has been one of biggest fans of the three-time world champion, has expressed that his aim is to achieve the
same level of respect and honour in his career in the sport.
“When I speak about greatness, I just know the stories about Ayrton Senna, the way he would walk into a room, the aura he had, how he carried himself, how he drove and inspired people, inspired a nation - that is greatness. I hope that I will have that greatness.”
In addition, he said that some people like him and some don’t. But, he always keeps his focus clean and targets to deliver his best. Besides, he said that he knows very well that the Spaniards hate him too much. Nevertheless, he asserted that although it
will take some time, but this thing can be changed.
“I am either hated or loved,” he said. “Unfortunately, when I got into F1, I sometimes said one thing and meant another and people took it the wrong way. They don't forget. For example, go to Spain. They generally hate me there. All you can do is try to
change it slowly, but it takes time.”
The Briton has been deemed as one of the most talented drivers in F1 and he has proven his potential by delivering some remarkable performances in his career so far. He was well in the title chase in 2012, but due to some reliability issues in his car, he
failed to keep up the level of consistency in his performance.
The 2008 world champion has moved to Mercedes from his home team, McLaren for the 2013 F1 season. Let’s see how he competes with his rivals in this season and whether he will be able to come up to the expectations of his fans or not.
