Lewis Hamilton hopes to be competitive in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is hoping to be competitive in the 2013 Formula 1 season, but he downplayed the chances of winning the championship.
Hamilton has been deemed as one of the finest drivers in the world of autosport as he has delivered some remarkable performances in his career until now.
The 2008 world champion performed impressively well with McLaren during the last season. He stood amongst one of the most consistent point scorers during the start of the season and was well in the title contention. However, he faced some reliability issues
in his car due to which he lost some important points in the championship battle and his hope of winning the title faded.
The British driver signed his contract with the Brackley based team during the preceding year after spending a long time at the Woking based squad.
Even though, he expressed that he is positively looking forward to perform well for his new team in this season. But, he asserted that it is quite hard to go for the title in the first season with Mercedes as he has not been able to drive the car yet.
“I hope that we can be competitive and if we arrive at the first race and we are up at the front that's just going to be spectacular, but if we're not then we are just going to have to keep working at it,” he said.
“At the moment I've not even driven the car so I don't know what problems they had [last year] and I haven't got anything to tell them and what area they need to improve in. They didn't have enough downforce [in 2012] maybe, but I won't know until I've got
in the car,” he added.
Nonetheless, he said that his hopes are high and he is aiming to deliver his best in this season. Besides, he said that his target is to take the Silver Arrows to new heights in the future.
The 28-year-old is going to drive alongside Nico Rosberg in this season. Let’s see how he competes with his main rivals and whether he will be able to attain competitive results for his team or not.
