Lewis Hamilton hopes to come up strong in 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is hoping to come up strong in 2012 British Grand Prix which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Hamilton said that they have planned to launch some major updates in MP4-27 for the approaching race which will surely help them in attaining competitive results. In addition, he said that they are trying their best to resolve the issue of tyre management in order to improve their performance in the races ahead.
“We've got some upgrades coming which is important because the other teams have obviously been making some serious steps forward,” Hamilton said. “I think our car doesn't seem to go so well at the lower speed circuits like Valencia, but I think at a higher speed circuit like Silverstone I think we should be competitive there. Trying to look after our tyres is our biggest problem, so hopefully we'll have a bit of a better chance with some upgrades.”
Even though, he showed an impressive pace in the qualifying of the European GP held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain, however, he could not score even a single point as he came 19th after his collision with Pastor Maldonado of Williams in the second last lap.
Nonetheless, he is positively looking forward to perform well in the next race in order to make his position stronger in this year’s championship.
The British driver is presently standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 88 points between the Red Bull Racing drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Moreover, he is 23 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
It will be important to note that he has been one of the most consistent drivers in the season so far as he claimed pole positions in the first two races and secured third podium finish in the first three grands prix. Furthermore, he took an incredible victory in the Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal after taking a start from second grid position.
Over and above, he is undeniably one of the most favourite contenders in the championship fight and it will be very interesting to see how he performs in the season ahead.
