Lewis Hamilton hoping for second win in Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton is hoping to repeat history at the Silverstone track by winning the second race of his career at this venue.
The first time he won there was back in 2008, but things have not worked out in his favour since then.
However, the British driver is optimistic that he has a solid chance with Mercedes this year, as the team has been moving in the positive direction over the past two events. He will definitely be in a position to qualify higher on the grid and from that
point onwards, it will be all about managing the tyres well.
The 28-year-old driver said, “Winning the British Grand Prix in 2008 was an incredible moment for me. I've been aiming to repeat it every year since and I'd love to win my second race at Silverstone. We have a good car this year so I hope we can do it and
it would be great to make the team proud at my home race.”
Hamilton has been scoring points with consistency during this season and is currently fourth in the Drivers’ Championship. He has been unable to win any race, but has finished on the podium thrice out of seven rounds. His team-mate Nico Rosberg has won the
Monaco GP, which clearly suggests that Mercedes have got the speed to match rivals Red Bull, Ferrari and Lotus in terms of race pace.
There will be plenty of support for the 2008 world champion in Silverstone, as he is the only British driver, who seems to have a winning car at the moment. He is really looking forward to please the fans.
He said, “The atmosphere, the flags flying around the circuit and just seeing everyone supporting us really does lift you. I hope we can put on a good show for them and we'll be pushing as hard as possible to give them a great weekend.”
Jenson Button and Paul di Resta will be the other two English drivers looking for local support in the upcoming race. However, they will need something close to a miracle in order to win the race. The former of the two might end up on the podium somehow,
but the latter might even struggle to finish in points.
