Lewis Hamilton hoping to get to first corner of Circuit de Catalunya before Red Bull drivers
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is hoping to get to the first corner of Circuit de Catalunya before the two Red Bull Racing Team drivers in order to take the advantage during the race.
“The Red Bulls look very strong, but I'm going to do everything I can to jump at least one - if not both - of them at the start,” he said.
Hamilton qualified in 3rd place as he scored a time around a second slower than Mark Webber’s pole position scoring time. However, he is going to start from the cleaner portion of the track due to which he would have an advantage over Sebastian
Vettel.
Since the straight after the start/finish line is quite long, it is believed that the 2008 Formula 1 world champion would have a Kinetic Energy Recovery System advantage over the reigning world champion as the “power boost” can enable him to get to the first
corner of the track before Sebastian. As a result, Hamilton is hoping to take the advantage and hopefully lead the race from the start.
“I hope I can attack tomorrow. When you start from the clean side of the grid, you automatically have a much better opportunity of getting a good start - and, this year, I've usually been on the dirty side, so tomorrow will be a bit of a bonus for me,” said
Hamilton.
He added that starting from third place on the grid is a perfect position as the driver leading row two can slipstream the pole position taker ahead of him and take an early advantage.
“My aim is to be P1 by turn one! It doesn't normally go that way, but as long as I don't go backwards I'll be happy,” said the McLaren driver.
The Spanish Grand Prix is going to be a very interesting as Circuit de Catalunya is the perfect test for each team’s respective car and it is going to be quite exhilarating to see how each driver works his way around the grid at the start.
