Lewis Hamilton hoping to score points at Australian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is not aiming to begin the forthcoming 2012 F1 season with a victory in the first Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on March 18, 2012. However, he is planning to score points to start-off for
a long season ahead.
“It's a realistic aim: to score some useful points and use the race to kickstart our challenge for the world championship,” said Hamilton.
Briton has expressed that he feels confident for the season opener after the successful pre-season programme.
“I actually feel more relaxed and ready for the new season than I think I've ever done. Everything has gone smoothly with the car - which is more than we can say for last year! - and it just seems to be a responsive and reliable package. My final day in
the car - with the aero package we plan to run next weekend - also felt good: the car was a useful step forward,” said Hamilton.
Furthermore, he said that they were not aiming low but it is important to understand that they had a long season ahead and they had to diversify their potential.
Nevertheless, he said that he would love to win the first race but they need to focus on all the races throughout the year to score points rather than focusing only on one race.
McLaren team is surely amongst the top contenders for the upcoming season and had a quite dependable pre-season time this year at Jerez and Barcelona circuits without facing any hardships.
Moreover, Hamilton said that they had not tested the new car in the championship so far but they could feel positive about it. He also said that it was quite strange that they could not run the car at the top speed during the last month but he expected to
find the out the maximum limit on this Saturday before the first race.
In addition, he said that an encouraging time in a year always comes for a team but they had still a lot of work to do for the upcoming season. Besides, he said that he would reach Melbourne with a smiling face.
