Lewis Hamilton in India to Promote F1
One of the biggest names in Formula One racing, British sensation Lewis Hamilton is in India to promote the sport and help local organisers chalk out a plan of staging the event in their own backyard.
Hamilton won the F1 Championship in 2008 and is on course to end amongst the top three this year.
He was at his belligerent best in India as he showed why he was rated as one of the best drivers in the world. Hamilton manoeuvred his car with a lot of skill in front of an awe struck audience
The Brit star was performing breathtaking stunts on a racetrack in India's southern coastal city of Chennai on Friday.
The promotional event was one where the British driver made new fans who had gathered to see a champion in action for the special promotional event being held to raise the curtain on the Indian Grand Prix 2011.
Hamilton said he hoped the first Grand Prix to be held in India in October next year would attract large audiences.
"How much India has embraced Formula-1 and they're such enthusiastic fans. I can imagine when we have the Grand Prix here, it's going to be the most spectacular Grand Prix event. If we have it full like the grandstand we had here and enthusiastic fans as
we have here, because the fans make the event," said Hamilton.
"Thank you for having me here today. I had such a great morning. For me, such a long way from home and its third time here in India and every time I come I feel so blessed to see that how much support I have. It's incredible to see how much support my team
has and how much interest in Formula One," he added.
The talented driver who has had a fairly decent season for his team this time around made a promise to the fans present at the venue that he would be participating in the Indian Grand Prix 2011 that is set to be held in Greater Noida.
The venue is located in a suburb of Indian capital New Delhi and would be hosting the high profile event on October 30, 2011.
The Indian motorsport federation is keen on promoting their venues in a bid to stage high profile events as the interest in motorsport has reached its pinnacle in a country known for its craze for cricket.
The Indian Grand Prix will become the 18th race of the FIA Formula One World Championship racing calendar for 2011 which is set to spark a new interest amongst viewers as the best drives from around the world are going to come down and compete
for the first time in the sub-continent.
The staging of the event is also a triumph for the country that has seen tremendous progress in the private sector. The booming economy has helped revolutionize cricket with the launch of T20 leagues that have invoked the interest of the leading players
from Australia, South Africa and other test playing nations.
Formula one for the time being serves as an unchartered territory for India, yet they are set to host the Commonwealth Games next month besides the cricket World Cup in 2011. Earlier this year, the hockey World Cup was also staged in New Delhi which clearly
indicates that the country is ready for high profile sporting events.
Motorsport fans would be hoping that they also get to enjoy the best of India’s organizational capabilities and produce a world class show.
