Lewis Hamilton insists Ron Dennis has supported his move to Mercedes – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that the executive chairman of McLaren Automotive and McLaren Group, Ron Dennis has supported his decision about moving to Mercedes in 2013.
Hamilton’s deal with the Woking based team is going to end at the conclusion of this season and he has already signed a new agreement with the Brackley based team as Michael Schumacher’s replacement for the coming year. On the other hand, the record championship
holder has decided to take retirement from the sport at the end of this season.
The British driver has been surrounded by many rumours that his move to the Silver Arrows has not been much appreciated by his team. However, he has discharged all the speculations and has recently said that Dennis has backed him up in this regard and has
wished him all the best for the future.
“We have spoken on the phone already,” Hamilton confirmed, according to the Mirror. “Us? We didn’t have a problem before.”
“He’s said it’s no problem, he said change is good for both of us and we will always have great history, which is the truth,” he said.
Besides, he said that he has always enjoyed his time in the team and they have claimed the world championship title together, which they will cherish forever. Additionally, he said that the British squad will always remain special for him.
“How much and how far do you go? Listen, it’s not something I want get into, it’s absolutely insignificant. It doesn’t matter. We have won a world championship together, had an amazing journey together and I want to have a change and that’s going to happen.
And I am happy about it. End of story,” he added.
The 27-year-old has been deemed as one of the most talented drivers in the sport and has shown some remarkable performances in his career so far.
At present, he is standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship with 165 points. Moreover, he is ahead of his teammate, Jenson Button and is behind his main rival, Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
