Lewis Hamilton says he is confident of a better second half of the season – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton has said that he is convinced that McLaren has a real chance of winning both Formula 1 titles of the current year.
Hamilton confidence comes through his win at the Hungarian Grand Prix just before the summer break. He believes that it was a fantastic way of catching up to Fernando Alonso’s lead in the standings. The Brit said he cannot wait to get back into action for
the Belgian Grand Prix.
McLaren are placed second in the constructors’ championship only a point behind Lotus. The team is fighting out with Red Bull for the title at the moment but Lotus looks really sharp as well and the English based team will be looking to get away from Lotus
and close in on to Red Bull after the summer break.
Ferrari are placed at fourth not too far behind but Felipe Massa’s form has meant that the team does not look a major threat for constructors’ as they could have with an able support for Alonso.
“My win in Hungary was a fantastic way to go into the summer break: it had the added bonus of sending the whole team away for their holidays with a positive feeling in their hearts,” said Hamilton. “It's also given me the hope and assurance that we can come
back for the final nine races with a real chance to go for both world championships.”
McLaren are boasted by the fact that their team looked the fastest at the Belgium Grand Prix as Hamilton won the race and his team-mate Jenson Button also managed to end his ravaged season with a podium finish.
Button started the season with a win at the opening race in Australia but has since been struggling to adapt to the Pirelli compounds.
Hamilton thinks that it is going to be a difficult task to achieve what the team is aiming for but it is still very much doable and he is confident that the team can.
“It's going to be an extremely tough, tactical and interesting finale to the season. There's no team with a clear advantage - although we're all pushing hard to catch Fernando's points tally in the drivers' championship – so there's still everything to play
for,” he added.
