Lewis Hamilton is impressed by Lotus’ performance in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is impressed by the consistent performance of Lotus in 2012 Formula 1 season so far while he hopes to perform well in Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13, 2012.
Lotus pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean secured an impressive second and third podium finish in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
Moreover, they gave a tough time to the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who won the race in the end.
The 2008 world champion said that the British team follows a different concept to increase the downforce. He added that he is amazed to see them on such a good position.
“They've obviously done a fantastic job, they've been quick all year generally,” he said. “They've just not had a race like the last race, but we knew that they would be quick. They've got a slightly different philosophy of how they generate downforce, which
is interesting. Good on them, it's great to see them up there and I hope that we can be up there racing with them next time.”
It will be important to mention that the Briton has also been showing reasonably consistent performances in the season until now and is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 49 points.
Additionally, he claimed pole positions in the first two races and secured third podium finish in both of them. Afterwards, he set the second best time in the qualifying in the third race but unfortunately, he started the race from 7th grid position as he
faced five-place grid penalty. Nevertheless, he still managed to secure incredible third podium finish.
However, he could only secure 8th place finish in the fourth race starting from the second position in the grid. Over and above, he is feeling confident that the Woking based team will make progress this weekend.
“We clearly have quite a good car but we don't know how big a step other people have done, but we will have made a step hopefully this weekend,” he said.
