Lewis Hamilton jubilant after conquering Spa
The air is filled with jingles and bells ringing loud and birds dancing all over the skies of Spa for the British driver, Lewis Hamilton, who had been able to get back to the top position of the Drivers’ Championship this Sunday.
The aggressive driver had a restless summer break as he lost his top position to Mark Webber of Red Bull in the previous race in Hungary. Soon after he returned from the break he was quick to claim back his top place thus being able to finally rest after three stressful weeks of planning and preparing to get the lead back.
As the race last Sunday ended, the Formula One official website talked to the twenty-five year old driver asking about his views on the race as well as his planes for the rest of the season.
Lewis started by saying that the moment he realised that it could be his race, “It felt incredible!” he was happy to say that the car kept on feeling better and better. “It was awesome! I was able to pace myself and every time I saw that the guys behind me were closing the gap I always had an answer to it”.
He admitted that it became difficult for him when the rain started pouring, he went wide at that moment. “Oh boy, that was scary”, he exclaimed honestly. However, he was fortunate to come out of that situation pretty nicely.
The rain no doubt made the day a tough one, the track kept on becoming slippery for the prime tyres to the extent that it was hard to keep the car on the track while keeping the temperature up as well. Moreover, while driving at great speed the drivers are normally not able to know at once if it is only drizzling or raining heavily. Therefore, it might be hard to keep pure balance at such a moment. Well, only a few drivers like Hamilton are able to keep going flawlessly in such conditions on a tough track like Spa.
While he was asked about how he felt, as three out of the five championship contenders did not score any points, which makes his position much stronger. He was quick to reply that it was good to get back to the top yet he feels sad for his teammate, who returned pointless, which is heartbreaking for Button as well as for the entire team.
He went further by saying that Button was doing a great job as he kept picking up places and at a moment it was almost evident that the two could have another one-two finish for the team. But unfortunately that opportunity was taken away by one of the Red Bulls.
He was also asked if he believes that the title chase is now between him and Webber. He replied promptly, “No, absolutely not! There is still a long way to go and we will race at so many different tracks up until the final race in Abu Dhabi that it just would be ridiculous to only count Mark and myself as candidates for the title”.
Moreover, he denied any misconception that had risen after his last win that he might become the number one driver for McLaren. He was quick to explain that the team had always given both the drivers exactly the same chances and had believed that with two best racers of the season, the team has a two hundred percent chance to move forward.
At the conclusion of the interview he said that the iconic track of Spa is the most challenging Grand Prix of the calendar and he is overwhelmed to have conquered the track.
