Lewis Hamilton looking forward to Mugello test after struggling 2012 Bahrain GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is looking forward to take part in the in-season test which is to be held at Mugello in order to solve the issues which they faced during 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix.
Hamilton lost some crucial championship points in the fourth race and finished the race at eighth position after he dropped from the second place due to the delays in pit stops.
It has been planned by the McLaren team that the test drivers, Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey will run the car in Mugello. However, Hamilton has expressed that he is eager to test run MP4-27 so as to assess its performance on track.
“It might change,” he was quoted by the Daily Telegraph. “I need to get back in the car. We need to figure out why the tyres are going off. If there are other things to test or ways to figure out I will be the one to do it, not let someone else do it.”
The Briton has shown some remarkable performances in the qualifying of the first four Grands Prix of the season as he managed to secure the pole in the first two races while came second in the last two races. However, he faced five-place grid penalty in
the Chinese GP and started the race from the seventh place in the grid.
Furthermore, he has been quite consistent in the season so far as he secured third place finishes in the opening three races but struggled in the last race in which he came 8th as a result of the problems which were faced during the pit stops.
In addition, he said that they need to make the substantial developments and the significant preparations for the races ahead in order to remove the difference between their qualifying and race performances.
“I think for us we need that gap,” Hamilton added. “We have a lot of work to do. There is no quick fix. We really have to make some big improvements to the car because the qualifying pace is there but the race pace, at least today, was miles off.”
