Lewis Hamilton may struggle in Mercedes in 2013 – Formula 1
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has decided to join Mercedes in 2013 and there are many chances that he may lament upon his decision as the Brackley team will possibly face developmental issues in the next season too.
Mercedes lacked competency in this season because of their unproductive development process due to which they have not achieved much in the championship fight despite having a reliable pre-season testing programme.
Nonetheless, Hamilton is still feeling confident on his decision and has said that he is positively looking forward to take the new challenge. He also said that he will try his best to take the Silver Arrows to new height in the future.
Conversely, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh has said that the British driver has made a mistake and may regret his decision in the coming year.
Furthermore, he said that he has known Hamilton for quite a long time and they have achieved a lot with the Woking based team until now. In addition, he said that he shares some memorable moments with the 27-year-old, which they will always remember throughout
their lives ahead.
“The simple answer is that I don't know. Lewis would be able to answer that question much better than me,” Whitmarsh said.
“I think it was a bit of that and a range of different emotions. He has been with us for so many years that I do not fully understand it,” he said.
Besides, he said that although they had made a huge offer to the Briton in order to keep him in the team, but it didn’t work out. Nonetheless, he said that they wish their driver best of luck for the future.
“We made Lewis an offer - an offer, which I believe is more money than any other driver at the moment is being paid. That leads us to suspect that our competitor and our partner Mercedes-Benz offered a bit more money,” he added.
Meanwhile, the 2008 world champion said that he has enjoyed his term with the British squad and expressed that he will always cherish the pleasant recollections.
Additionally, it is to be noted that he will drive as Nico Rosberg’s teammate in the next season and will replace Michael Schumacher who has planned to take retirement at the end of this year.
It will be important to mention that Rosberg and Schumacher have struggled with many technical and tyre management issues in the season so far due to which they could not score competitive points for their team.
On the other hand, Hamilton has also faced many reliability problems due to which he lost his hopes of winning the championship title.
Even though, the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn said that their double-DRS design has not provided them the expected boost and they have failed to attain desired results in the season until now. Nevertheless, he asserted that they are not feeling
upset over their uncompetitive results and are confidently looking forward to develop a faster car for the next season.
He also said that they have full faith in their next year’s driver line-up and are eying to come up stronger right from the beginning of the coming year so as to win championship title.
It will be thrilling to see how they show up in the next year.
