Lewis Hamilton might be a contender for Red Bull seat says Helmut Marko – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing’s Formula 1 consultant, Helmut Marko, has expressed his feelings about the McLaren’s driver, Lewis Hamilton, by saying that Hamilton should drive along side Sebastian Vettel to make Red Bull a perfect team for the long term. Marko clearly
explained that Mark Webber would first be analysed and then further thought would be given to Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes has assured the team of his presence for a long time and said that right now he doesn’t see himself at any other team. However, Hamilton did said that, “Of course, I'm going to be in Formula One for some time, and you never
know which way the wind will take you.” This might be the reason Marko is thinking of signing Hamilton for the 2012 season.
Red Bull’s team for 2011 is confirmed as Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Vettel is not leaving the team soon because he signed a deal which bounds him until 2014. Webber, however seems to be a lose end as he was not given a contract as long as Vettel’s.
Webber is still on a one year contract which ends this year.
Marko clearly said that Webber is under the radar for the 2011 season and his seat for 2012 totally depends on his performance and willingness to work with the team. At the same time Marko commented that the team wants two drivers fighting for the championship
and Webber is looking off the road on that. The Australian finished his home Grand Prix in fifth position while his team-mate Vettel was untouchable on the top of the table.
Marko said, “Definitely with his aggression and his speed, Hamilton must always be a topic, our philosophy is to have the quickest drivers together in our team.” The Formula one supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, also commented on the two drivers and said that
they are gifted drivers and will show a lot of progress if they are on the same team.
Hamilton was the youngest Formula 1 champion before Vettel took the honour from him last year. Hamilton has already said the Red Bull team is just a ‘drinks company’ so it will be interesting to see how far Marko’s idea goes.
