Lewis Hamilton not happy with McLaren’s performance in the 2012 F1 season – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has expressed his unhappiness with the team’s performance in the current season of Formula 1.
McLaren’s performance this season has been marred by the reliability issues of their car. Hamilton had to retire many times during the season and not even one time was his own fault. A similar incident happened last weekend in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on
the Yas Marina circuit. Hamilton and his teammate Jenson Button had set a pace worth challenging Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel’s. Both drivers had given a one two finish in the first and third practice sessions while Vettel was only able to beat their pace in
the second one. Hamilton scored the pole position in the qualifying round while Vettel was disqualified due to a fuel irregularity in his car.
Come race day, Hamilton was leading the race when his car came to a sudden halt during the twentieth lap due to a fuel pump failure. Hamilton had been very disappointed and it was frustrating to come this close and lose again. He insisted that McLaren’s
reliability issues were a huge barrier between him and winning the race.
“It's been a tough one. We've just had lots and lots of problems, too many problems to be able to have won,” Hamilton said. “We've not done a good enough job collectively to have won the championship. In actual fact, this weekend [at Abu Dhabi], we had the
pace to get a one-two [finish]. I'm not really sure what Jenson [Button] was struggling with this weekend, but we had the strength in the car, the ability—the car was there this weekend.”
The season has been agitating as Hamilton’s own chance at the drivers’ title was dissolved with constant car problems. One of the most miserable race days was in Korea where he struggled with his car to score a single point. Since the failure in Abu Dhabi
and only two more races left in the season, McLaren has also lost their chance in the constructors’ championship whereas Ferrari took their second place after the Korean GP.
Hamilton had also confessed that if he was given a better car like Red Bull’s, he would have been challenging Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso at this time.
