Lewis Hamilton not optimistic about qualifying session chances of German Grand Prix – Formula 1
According to the 2008 Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, McLaren’s chances of scoring a pole position this weekend for the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring circuit are quite bleak as they are once again failing to introduce some successful and
efficient updates to the MP4-26.
After these disappointing results, the team is not hoping for a good qualifying performance but they do claim that they can score some good results during the race if they capitalise.
“We might have the chance to challenge at least one of the Ferraris and Red Bulls - obviously they are still massively quick, but anything can happen,” he said.
However, he added that McLaren still have the capability to close the gap with Red Bull Racing and Ferrari in the championship as there are still 10 races left including the German Grand Prix.
He scored the 7th place for the second free practice session this Friday while his teammate Jenson Button was in a world of his own as he finished in 11th place in the timesheets.
“We can't challenge for pole tomorrow, at least that it what it seems from today. In pure pace in qualifying we don't have the pace to run with them (Red Bull or Ferrari) - over a single lap they definitely have about a second on us. We don't know what fuel
load everyone is on, so we might be pleasantly surprised tomorrow to find we're heavier than others - although historically that's not the case,” he said.
Hamilton claims that he has faith in his team and he is aware that they are trying their best to provide him with the best possible car.
Nevertheless, it seems that now Ferrari are quite quick and they have the pace to challenge RBR just like McLaren did during the first couple of races of the season.
Ferrari are better in this way that they are improving both their qualifying and race pace while McLaren have not been able to improve their qualifying pace at all since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
