Lewis Hamilton not tempted to take the “blue pill” after losing both championships to Red Bull
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton was looking exceptionally well all weekend after he took the 2nd place on the grid alongside Sebastian Vettel in the first row. Lewis was able to top the second practice session on Friday and his team was satisfied
with the pace they had at the Yas Marina Circuit but it seems that it just wasn’t meant to be for Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber or Fernando Alonso as Sebastian Vettel snatched the title away from them.
As soon as the race began, the two McLarens were on the attack as Jenson Button took over Fernando Alonso’s 3rd place and the two McLaren drivers were working perfectly together. Fernando Alonso on the other hand was trying to attack Jenson Button
and was looking pretty decent himself until the pointless pit stop he made in the 16th lap as a response to Mark Webber’s pit stop in the 15th lap.
After that, it seemed that Lewis Hamilton out of his wildest dreams gained an opportunity of winning the title. Sebastian Vettel was pulling out more than his car had to offer thus increased the lead between him and Lewis Hamilton in order to come out ahead
of the two McLarens after pitting. Sebastian and Red Bull’s plan worked perfectly as the German driver came out of the pits ahead of the two McLaren drivers and therefore, led the race to take 25 points and win the glorious Formula 1 drivers’ championship
for his team. This meant that Red Bull had successfully secured both titles in 2010 and proved that the team was more dominant than McLaren or Ferrari this season.
However, since McLaren already knew that their chances of winning the drivers’ title were already bleak before the race, the team was not as upset as Ferrari was considering Fernando Alonso was the favorite to win the Driver's Championship going into the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
After a dramatic race in Abu Dhabi, there were many rumours that the team set Mark Webber up after they asked the Australian to pit earlier in order to mislead Ferrari and enable Sebastian Vettel to win the title. As a result, it was expected that Mark Webber
might be replaced and the only replacement which is likely is Lewis Hamilton joining Red Bull.
As the British driver was eagerly chasing the title this year and wants to win it next year more than any other driver, there were rumours that Hamilton is interested in a deal with Red Bull for the 2011 season but these rumours were ruled out by Lewis as
he claims that McLaren is more consistent and the team is more reliable than Red Bull.
One cannot disagree with the 2008 world champion as Mercedes was introduced last year and they won the championship easily. But this year, Mercedes has been one of the most inconsistent teams on the grid and their car’s pace has been nowhere near the top
running constructors. Therefore, one cannot expect a team to perform consistently every year.
Even though Red Bull has consistently been performing at a great pace since 2009, one still can never be certain. Besides, McLaren is one of the most legendary teams in the sport. Although a move to Red Bull might seem like an easy way out for Lewis, he
made the right choice by ruling out these rumours in order to boost his team’s moral.
Therefore, McLaren vows to provide its drivers with the best possible piece of machinery next year and hopefully secure both of the titles in the 2011 Formula 1 season that is expected to commence in February 2011.
