Lewis Hamilton not willing to leave McLaren if he gets a competitive car – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is not willing to leave the team if they keep providing him with a good competitive car.
“In terms of where I am, I'm again just very fortunate to be a part of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. It's one of the best teams there, again with great history. We have a car that is capable of winning, as my team-mate showed at the weekend,” said Hamilton.
Other than that, he stated that he is not willing to make a move to any other Motorsport anytime soon as he always dreamt of becoming a champion Formula 1 driver since childhood.
Hamilton believes that he has definitely not achieved much in the sport yet and since he wants to achieve his goals and become a champion again, decisions like leaving McLaren or switching teams can be made.
Nevertheless, he claims that he has a race winning car at the moment as a result of which, there is no reason for leaving McLaren at the moment.
“I don't see why you would particularly want to move when you have the most competitive car,” he said.
The McLaren driver was seen talking to Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing because of which these rumours started. However, Lewis claims that he talks to many people all the time and that does not mean that he is going to make a switch.
“I know all the managers, the bosses, all the teams. I know Stefano Domenicali, we chat all the time. I've known Christian since I was in the lower series, when I was going from Formula 3 to GP2, Christian was running an F3000 team and I used to speak to
him back then,” he added.
There were a lot of rumours that the former world champion might make a move to Red Bull Racing since Mark Webber and Hamilton’s contracts with their respective teams are expected to expire by the end of 2011. However, it seems that might not happen until
or unless McLaren’s performance deteriorates noticeably.
