Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes relying on his support system – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes feels that his performance during this season has not been up to the mark, calling it a “massive under-achievement.”
He admitted that a strong support system is what he needs right now in order to regain his confidence and boost his performance.
From being the target of criticism from race stewards for most part of the season, to his occasional encounters with Felipe Massa of Ferrari, to a personal life crippled with issues, Hamilton had to really struggle through the season.
He has attributed his teammate Jenson Button’s success during this season to the strong support system that the 31-year-old enjoys from his family, friends and colleagues. The latter have always been there to back Button, who has been very lucky this season,
not just with his career, but with his personal life as well.
Hamilton on the contrary had to face a lot of issues in his personal life that cast a negative impact on his on-track performance and ultimately affected his position in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
The 26-year-old Briton’s performance this season lacked consistency with 2 race wins, some satisfactory and some not-so-promising results. He was unable to deliver the kind of result that was expected of him given the competitive McLaren he had for this
season.
“For me, that's just massive under-achievement from my own personal view. And I am hard on myself. I've always been a very hard individual and definitely probably too hard on myself, but that's just the way I am. I'm working on trying to be less hard on
myself but I take it personally because this is my life. I race with my heart, this is everything to me,” he admits.
With just two races to go before this season of Formula 1 comes to an end, Hamilton has his fingers crossed as getting into any more trouble will be the last thing he would want to happen.
He looks to finish off the season in a decent fashion perhaps with a win, which “would be really beautiful, it would be really nice,” he said.
In the wake of a not-so-successful personal life, and lack of strong support from friends and family, it should be interesting to see how he manages to pull off a great performance during this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the spectacular Yas Marina
Circuit.
The race is schedule for this Sunday, November 13, 2011.
