Lewis Hamilton of McLaren adopts a new approach for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes has adopted a new approach for 2012 following this season’s less than satisfactory race performances.
The 26-year-old Briton has been doing well at the qualifiers during this season, however at most of the races this season he was seen in trouble of some sort or the other.
It has certainly not been the best season for Hamilton, who has persistently met the stewards and drivers for his aggressive driving all through, recently getting involved in another accident with Felipe Massa of Ferrari at the 2011 Indian Grand Prix.
At the 2011 Korean Grand Prix held three weeks ago, Hamilton had displayed a great show by grabbing the runners-up position which evoked serious thoughts from various quarters on the driver’s return to his usual strong form. However, the recent grand prix
at India completely negated all high opinions when the Briton could only earn a seventh position following an on-track accident with Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
Hamilton admits that the current season has been a fiasco for the Briton, as he could not do justice to the expectations that his team had from him and that he was unable to perform to the level that he could have given the car that he had.
He said, “With the car we would have hoped to have had more consistent pace. But the team has done a fantastic job to get us where we are today, the second fastest team, able to split the Red Bulls, and no one else has been able to do that.”
He understands the mistakes he has made this season, and has decided not to repeat them in 2012. He realises that being a Formula 1 driver means one needs to put aside his personal life when out on the track.
“Life is like a puzzle, you just have to get things in place,” he explained. “Formula 1 is a massively competitive sport where you have to have clear thoughts.”
Earlier this week after Hamilton extended an official apology to his team for his collision with Massa, team chairman Martin Whitmarsh asked Hamilton not to be so apologetic of his on-track accidents, rather he should try and learn to move past the mishaps
and quickly adapt to change.
With the new plan that Hamilton has devised for himself for 2012, he will not let anything distract him from his main purpose as he aims to achieve far better results in the next season. Let’s see how well he succeeds.
