Lewis Hamilton of McLaren faces problem after a careless twitter post – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren fell in trouble when he posted telemetry data of the performance of his team on his Twitter account.
It was an eventful Belgian Grand Prix at Spa for Hamilton, who crashed out of the race as well in lap 1. Later, he removed the problematic tweet when he was asked by the team.
The posted sensitive data received a lot of criticism. Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull Racing said that he is certain that every engineer in the pit lane would be having a close look at the telemetry data. He added that if his drivers do the
same they would be breaching confidentiality.
Horner said, “I'm sure every engineer in the pit lane is having a very close look at it.”
His team principal Martin Whitmarsh said that Hamilton was asked to remove the tweet and he removed it immediately.
Whitmarsh said, “He was asked to take [the tweet] down and he did it immediately. He misjudged the situation. All the other ones we didn't ask him to remove, but that one he removed and apologised. He wasn't thinking clearly, obviously.”
Furthermore, the team principal said that it is clear that Hamilton could not understand the delicacy of the matter. He added that the driver removed the post when the team asked him and apologised over his action.
Additionally, he said that the tweeted information was not actually critical and would not be of great use to their competitors. He added that he does not think that the incident would cause any technical damage to McLaren.
Moreover, he said that the tweet was just a mistake from the driver. He added that the engineers do not like such information leaked and they spend their lives to keep such things secret.
“In reality it wasn't great because we don't share data with the world, the actual data in there is not going to be of any great use to our competitors I would say,” Whitmarsh said.
It was a difficult weekend for Hamilton at Spa as he later faced a huge accident after starting from the 7th grid position.
