Lewis Hamilton proud of his performance in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is feeling proud on his performance in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
Even though, Hamilton dominated the timesheets on the qualifying on Saturday, however, he was disqualified from the pole position as he could not meet the requirements of minimum fuel sample in the car before going into the pits.
Despite starting the race from last grid position, the 2008 world champion managed to secure an impressive 8th place finish in Spanish GP and stayed ahead of his teammate, Jenson Button who struggled with the car’s setup during the race.
Moreover, he praised his team for their efforts as they have made some critical improvements in their pit stops after facing difficulties in the last race in Bahrain.
“I'm proud of my performance today, and proud of the team too,” he said. “They did a great job: a real improvement with the pitstops, following our difficulties in that area recently.”
He added, “All in all, then, I think today's result was the best we could do. I was the only driver to attempt a two-stop strategy, and I'm glad I was able to made it work. People often say that I have an aggressive driving style, but my final stint on the
prime tyre was 31 laps, so I reckon I proved today that I can make tyres last.”
In addition, he said that he had to face a big challenge in the race but he did not give up. Besides, he said that his target was to limit the damage while he said that he is not feeling any kind of disappointment as he is still standing on third place in
the drivers’ championship with 53 points.
Furthermore, he said that his aim is to score reasonable points in each and every race in the season ahead so as to make his position stronger in this year’s championship fight. Over and above, he is confidently looking forward to perform at his best in
the next race which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco in Spain.
