Lewis Hamilton refrains from playing the blame game – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton has refrained from playing the blame game with Pastor Maldonado over duo’s collision in the recently concluded European Grand Prix.
It was the penultimate lap of the race when Maldonado tried to overtake Hamilton and took the outside of turn 12 to overrun the Brit in order to move past him but Hamilton held his position and at the apex of turn 13 both cars collided damaging the Williams
front wing and ending the McLaren’s race.
Maldonado went on to finish the race placed 10th but a look into the collision from the stewards have changed that position as the Venezuelan was penalised 20 second for the race.
Hamilton looked furious right after the accident and threw his steering wheel out of the car before coming out in frustration. Although Maldonado went on to blame the Brit over the accident Hamilton refrained from blaming him.
“I really don't remember, all I remember is sitting in the wall, so... that's racing,” Hamilton said. “You just have to suck it up and move forward. I'm looking forward to Silverstone - a big congratulations to Fernando [Alonso] I think he did a great job
today. It's definitely tough but we still have many more races.”
The accident has caused Hamilton to be out of the lead in the Drivers’ standings and is now 20 points behind Fernando Alonso.
Hamilton was asked if he would have been able to hold off Maldonado to the end of the race if the collision had not taken place and his reply was in the negative. He admitted that the tyres were really worn out and he was not sure where he would have finished
had he been able to finish the race.
“The last lap all of a sudden the tyres just went, it was almost like I had flat tyres at the back. But we've got a lot of work to do to try and pick up the pace because we were really struggling today,” he said.
It will be interesting to see how Hamilton moves past this incident to fight in the next race.
