Lewis Hamilton responds to Felipe Massa, says he still respects the Brazilian – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton has finally responded to Felipe Massa’s comments and says he has no problem with the Brazilian regardless of the negative comments that he is coming out with.
Both drivers have been at odds a number of times recently, with an incident at the Singapore Grand Prix which caused Felipe Massa to react in anger after the race and sarcastically congratulated Lewis Hamilton.
In the Japanese Grand Prix, again the pair had a run-in as Hamilton moved over on the Ferrari and nudged Massa’s car, causing minor damage. The Brit was thoroughly criticised for the incident.
Now, Hamilton has come out and said that he admits to having some clashes with Felipe Massa, but says he does not have any issues with Massa and still respects him.
“Of course, the situation has not been great for some time now,” Hamilton said. “But I think I've always had respect for Felipe and I still do today regardless of the negative comments that he is coming out with. It is easy in this sport when you are competitive
and in the heat of the moment to say things you don't mean.”
“Whether or not he does mean them, regardless, I have tried to show respect and particularly in the last race... I am really sorry for that, I really didn't see him,” he said.
Talking about his own form Hamilton was philosophical in reply, saying that it takes time because he has to deal with a lot of things that are going on in his head. He also mentioned the way he has been losing the plots to his races this season, saying that
they were human errors and nothing more. He further said that there is not much that can be done about it other than learning from them.
Hamilton has been fighting some demons lately, although his team has shown full support for him and has announced that they will be giving him the best car for his races next year. They understand that a driver can get into such phase in his career and they
will wait for him to recover from it.
Hamilton still has four races to compete in this season, with the Korean Grand Prix starting this weekend on October 14, 2011 and his fans and critics alike would be watching his driving very closely.
