Lewis Hamilton satisfied with British GP result despite failing to win – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes said that he was unfortunate not to win the British GP, but claimed that the overall result was satisfying.
According to the 2008 world champion, “The fans have been incredible, the weather's great and it looked like we were on our way to a win. The car was feeling great and I just had no problems at all, but the tyre blew up. But a big congratulations to Nico
(Rosberg) and the team they've done an incredible job.”
The 28-year-old started the race from pole and started building lead over his opponents in the opening few laps. He was looking really good until a left rear puncture ruined his chances of victory. He managed to crawl to the pits for a tyre change, but came
out right at the back of the grid.
At that stage, the Briton did not look like finishing in the points, but he had the speed to make up places and ended up in fourth place overall.
Looking at that, Hamilton was really happy and believes that the next race will provide him a chance of brining up his maiden victory with Mercedes. He added, “When I was back in 21st I didn't even know if I was going to get any points today so I'm very
grateful to come up as high as I did so I'll look forward to the next race, because if the car performs like this then we stand more chances of winning.”
Although the former McLaren driver is fourth in the championship at the moment, he has got a solid chance of closing the gap to the front runners in the upcoming events. He has got a strong car at the moment and a couple of victories will definitely turn
things around for him.
However, Hamilton will have to watch out for his team-mate too, who has already secured a couple of victories in the season and is bridging the gap to the leaders. Despite not starting the season on a high, Rosberg has gained immense confidence with his
victories and luck has also been favouring him recently.
The German driver is just seven points short of his team-mate and is currently sixth in the championship.
