Lewis Hamilton says 2011 not McLaren vs. Red Bull because Ferrari and Mercedes gaining fast
British driver, Lewis Hamilton, has said that the 2011 Formula 1 season is not going to be a McLaren and Red Bull season because some of other big teams, including Ferrari and Mercedes are starting to gain on the grid.
The Brit added that McLaren was able to beat the Red Bull team by strategy and not by having a faster car. He stated that his team might not be the quickest in the Turkish Grand Prix but will try their level best to give 100 percent during the race.
The driving ace added, “The other guys seem to be closing the gap gradually. Look at Mercedes; they were very competitive in the last race. You see Ferrari, they are always there or thereabouts and also the Renaults are doing fantastic and [Vitaly] Petrov
is driving fantastically well.”
Lewis added that McLaren will strike hard in the Turkish Grand Prix so will the Red Bull team. He said, “I would prefer to arrive here cautious. We may not be the quickest this weekend, which is definitely possible, but if we are then that will be fantastic
and we will do what we can to win.”
After the first three races, it was clearly evident that the 2011 season is going to be a two way battle between Red Bull and McLaren. Just like in the 2010 season, where Ferrari and Red Bull were fighting for races while every other team was only completing
the races. However, early into the 2011 season, Renault, Ferrari and Mercedes have started to show some competitiveness which made Lewis say that it would be “quite close at some point.”
Talking about his latest race performance, where he managed to win the race in the last couple of laps, Lewis said that he didn’t have the fastest car on the track but he still managed to win the race because of the right strategy.
Nevertheless, the Turkish Grand Prix’s Free Practice session kicks off this Friday and the 2011 Formula 1 season will become clearer in terms of which team stands where in the championship battle.
