Lewis Hamilton says McLaren can fight with Red Bull racing team – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that the Woking-based outfit can push to fight with the Red Bull racing team in the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.
He also mentioned that if both of their drivers complete their early laps of race successfully, then they can beat the Red Bulls.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has only been beaten once in ongoing season’s four races so far, and the McLaren drivers have not started the races well- something that has helped Vettel even further.
McLaren driver Button discussed the upcoming race weekend. He said, “There is a very long drag down into Turn 1 here, and even if they qualify half a second in front of us - if you qualify right behind them you can get them into Turn 1. Then the race is
anyone's from then on - it is not as straightforward as quickest car wins.”
He further added that he had no doubts that the Red Bull drivers have done a great job in the first four races of the season but he believed that they will catch up with them on the Spanish GP race day.
On the other hand, Hamilton said, “The problem is, when Vettel starts on pole position it's easy because he has clear air. It's pretty much done and dusted by Turn 1 because he's able to look after his tyres and his engine, it's very, very straightforward.
There's really not much to it.”
The British is confident about himself that he can get the car on the front row and catch up with Vettel in the remainder of the season.
The 26-year-old driver went on to say that this weekend would be more competitive for the teams, as almost all squads have delivered some upgrades to their machines to counter the challenging race.
The fifth round of the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season will begin on Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Barcelona. Let’s hope McLaren are able to put up an improved show and challenge Red Bull for the podium.
