Lewis Hamilton says McLaren did not have the pace to get better results at Silverstone – Formula 1
Lewis Hamilton has said that McLaren was just not quick enough to challenge the top teams of at the grid.
Hamilton finished the British Grand Prix at a disappointing 8th place while his team-mate Jenson Button finished the race at 10th place. Both drivers made it in the top ten but could not provide the results they were hoping to bring in front of their home
crowd.
Hamilton started the race at eighth and moved up to second place in the race but gradually came down while Button started the race from 18th place and moved up to 10th finishing with a point. Both drivers hummed the same tune after the race that the car
needs to be improved in order to get better results in the season and to keep the bid for the titles alive.
Button has been struggling with the Pirelli compounds for some time now in the season and has not been able to live up to his potential after the opening race of the season which he won.
Hamilton admitted that he was very disappointed at not being able show more competition in front of his home crowd but said that he put all that he could in the race.
“It wasn't a special race to be honest,” Hamilton said. “I wish we could have done more for the fans, we tried as hard as we could but we just didn't have the pace today. I don't know why - I think I was in the lead at one point wasn't I? - And I don't understand
how I could be there and then go all the way back to where I started. But I pushed all the way, I did everything I could and the team also did a great job.”
He said that as far as he can understand it must have been the strategy that did not work for the team but that is something he will look into and analyse once he gets the time. He said that even relatively old tyres he was able to keep up to Alonso in the
race so maybe he should have tried for a one stop strategy. The race was really tough for the team and the priority is to look to future races and make up the right strategies for them.
