Lewis Hamilton says McLaren one-two at Silverstone will do for the British fans – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that the British team will try to perform better in the upcoming home race, the 2011 Formula 1 British Grand Prix to be held at the legendary Silverstone circuit.
Hamilton stated that a McLaren one-two in the Silverstone Grand Prix will once again light up the hopes of British fans for a 2011 constructors’ championship title.
Hamilton, who stated that the 2011 championship is over for the McLaren team, added that fighting against the Red Bull team will not be an easy battle but everything is possible in Formula 1.
Hamilton stated, “What we really want is a one-two - think what that would do for British sport and the fans. I know what we are up against, but nothing is impossible. It's never over until it's over. We're only coming up to halfway [in the calendar], and
if we were to win all the other grands prix then we can still win the championship.”
Recently, Sebastian Vettel won his sixth grand prix of the season and opened up a gap of 77 points to McLaren’s Jenson Button. Hamilton is another 12 points adrift in the championship battle which provoked him to say that his season is over right away.
The Brit further stated that McLaren will not be stronger in Silverstone as well so nothing can be expected of them.
However, the Brit is full of enthusiasm as he stated, “It would feel massively special to us. Hopefully one day there will be a younger version of me at Silverstone looking up at a photo of myself and Jenson on the podium.”
Hamilton was up against the German in the opening five races of the season only before his fearless aggression on the wet track of Montreal did not pay off and he slipped from the championship battle.
Nevertheless, Silverstone is expected to be a thrilling race due to Blown Diffuser clampdown. Let’s see how that turns out to be on July 10, 2011.
