Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes have a lot of work to do to catch up – Formula 1 News
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that they have a lot of work to do to improve their pace for the 2013 German Grand Prix, after facing some issues in the second free Friday practice session at Nurburgring.
Hamilton didn’t seem quite comfortable behind the wheel of his car in the FP2 and came 8th in the timesheets after setting his best time of 1 minute and 31.304 seconds. He has said that they have noticed few differences
in their performance in both the practice sessions. He asserted that his car was quite off balance in the FP2, therefore they have to make the necessary changes in their car’s setup to perform well in this weekend’s race.
“Mine has, definitely. I was back in eighth or something,” Hamilton said.
“We haven't noticed the differences,” he said. “It feels the same as always at every weekend and we're just trying to fight the set-up at the moment. The car felt a little off balance during P2 so we'll have a look into that overnight
and probably backtrack on some of those changes for tomorrow.”
Besides, he said that they are very strong in long runs. However, he insisted that they still need to make some essential developments in order to compete well with their rivals so as to make their position stronger in this year’s
championship fight.
“It looks like they are quite quick, especially on the long runs. But that's no surprise, they are leading both championships and we have a lot of work to do to catch up,” the British driver added.
The 2008 world champion has performed incredibly well in the season until now and is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 89 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and behind
his main rival, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. He has secured three third podium finishes in the season so far.
It will be interesting to see whether the Silver Arrows will be able to resolve their issues and how Briton and his teammate, Nico Rosberg performs in the season ahead.
