Lewis Hamilton says Sebastian Vettel too far ahead in championship battle – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has stated that the defending world champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing is too far ahead in the championship battle.
The Brit added that the best he can pull out of the remaining Formula 1 championship is to win races and live in one of his own worlds as the leader is far ahead in points and luck.
After winning the Monaco Grand Prix of the 2011 season, Vettel extended his lead in the championship battle by a handsome margin of 58 points.
The only driver who looks to be in contention with the German is Hamilton but the Brit himself thinks that catching the Red Bull of Vettel is almost impossible now.
Hamilton said, “He has kind of gone, but there is a lot of races, lots can happen, and rather than chase him, I will continue to chase points and the championship.”
He added that the Monte Carlo race was a disaster for him but he will recover from it to do what best he can do now.
“I will recover from the weekend. It is a big gap, but I will focus on the best job I can and not on Sebastian. If my luck eventually turns and things do start coming, who knows?” commented Hamilton.
From the results of the Monte Carlo race, it became evident that Vettel is certainly riding his luck on a very high note. In the qualifiers, Vettel was able to put his flying lap early in the session and when Hamilton tied up his shoes to hit the circuit,
Sergio Perez crashed and compromised his tactics.
On the race day, Vettel was coming under heavy siege from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso when the race stopped and drivers were allowed to change tyres. After that, Vettel had a smooth run to the chequered flag.
Nevertheless, 13 races are still left in the 2011 season and maybe 14, if Bahrain joins, so Hamilton will get plenty of chances to run close to the defending champion.
