Lewis Hamilton says Valencia will be a consolidation week for McLaren team – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has said that the Valencia Grand Prix will be his chance to cover up the damage which he endured in the last two races of the 2011 season.
The Brit added that Valencia will be the third street track of the season and McLaren have shown that they have the pace to take the lead in those kinds of tracks.
Hamilton had rather tough weekends in Monaco and Montreal where he struggled to get into the top five positions.
But now the Brit is looking into Valencia as a winning opportunity.
He said, “I've always gone well at Valencia, finishing second there in every race, and I really enjoy attacking the track. For me, Valencia will now be a weekend of consolidation after two disappointing results in Monaco and Canada. It's a difficult circuit
with no let-up, but that won't deter me as I'm really keen to get back on track and get back in the points.”
Hamilton added that coming from the last two weekends, where the car was capable of winning the race; he is really looking forward to a win in Valencia.
“We've arguably had the fastest race car in the last three races. That's really encouraging because I know that, when it's put to best use, I should be able to finish at the front. As always, that will be my goal next weekend,” added Hamilton.
In the last two races, Hamilton managed only eight points which he secured in the Monaco Grand Prix. In the Montreal race, the Brit only managed to hit the wall and end his race in the eighth lap.
He was also involved in no less than four accidents in the last two races but was penalised for only two of them which were in the Monaco race.
The season continues with the eighth grand prix of the season and Hamilton has some catching up to do as he finds himself down to fourth position in the championship standings.
