Lewis Hamilton says consistency is the key to win championship – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that consistency is the key to win 2012 Formula 1 world champion.
Hamilton performed exceptionally well in the Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10 and took his first victory of this season. Moreover, his strategy to take two pit stops proved out to be successful in the end when
he overtook the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing and the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari during the ending laps.
After winning the Canadian GP, he is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 88 points and is 2 points ahead of Alonso who has a lead of just 1 point over Vettel.
However, he believes that competition is going to very tough throughout the season ahead. Therefore, he expressed that he is not getting carried away with his victory in the last race and is aiming to score some considerable points in the forthcoming races
so as to make his position stronger in the championship.
“My win in Montreal was obviously an extremely satisfying moment for me but, actually, it does very little to alter things in the world championship,” said Hamilton. “Firstly, while it's always pleasing to be leading championship, I'm only two points ahead
of Fernando, which is nothing, particularly when there are handful of strong drivers all separated by couple of points, so there's still everything to play for.”
In addition, he said that consistency is the most critical factor to claim the championship title while he said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the European GP which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
“I think that consistency, rather than individual strong results, will be the key to winning this world championship, so we need to back it up in Valencia with another strong result,” he said.
The 2008 world champion is unquestionably one of the most favourite contenders in this year’s championship fight. Above and beyond, it will be very interesting to see how the approaching season turns up for the Briton.
