Lewis Hamilton says he could have won Singapore Grand Prix easily – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren retired from the Singaporean Grand Prix due to a gearbox failure while he was leading the race ahead of the Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel.
He told that he was satisfied with the performance of his car and could have won the race easily.
McLaren are exhibiting strong performances over the circuit currently. Hamilton told that he could have attained more speed if required.
He said, “It's obviously gutting when the car stops. I was just cruising and if I needed any more I could have picked up the pace easily. Today would have been an easy win.”
Hamilton is positive about the remainder of the season and said that he will try to win all of the remaining six races and will not give up easily. Besides, he appreciated the performance of the drivers who attained the podium on the Singaporean circuit.
The British driver said, “Unfortunately, that was not the case and the Red Bulls did a good job, and Fernando and obviously Jenson. We've got six races left and I'll keep pushing. We need to win all of them. I won't give up, I'll keep pushing to the end.
This makes it a lot harder for us to do now, but as I said we've still got six races.”
He told that they knew that there was some problem with the gearbox as it was not something new. He had told his team that he lost e-shifts and the gears were shifting aggressively. His team responded that he should be able to get back the e-shifts during
the race but later he lost his third gear and consequently he lost all gears.
Hamilton had attained the pole position of the Singaporean GP convincingly after Vettel had leaded all the practice sessions over the weekend. The British driver was able to maintain a decent gap with Vettel when his gearbox failed. The drivers are only
allowed to change their gearbox after five races if they change their gearbox earlier they face a five-place grid penalty.
