Lewis Hamilton says he has proven himself after the victory in the United States GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton insists that he has proven himself after achieving the victory in the United States Grand Prix last weekend.
Hamilton won the race after brilliantly overtaking Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and leaving behind both Vettel and his championship rival Fernando Alonso.
“I think I stamped my mark on the sport and showed I have the status that the others do,” he said. “Even though I am not competing for first or second in the Championship I still hold that drive. I just beat the supposed best. I think I have been driving
at my best all year, getting stronger and stronger and this was my strongest performance of the year. To be able to push and not make mistakes and to hunt Sebastian down and see him make the mistakes is a great feeling.”
He added that people only appreciate you as long as you have performed well in your last race. He expressed his wish to be competing for the drivers’ championship but has accepted the things the way they are. He is pleased with his achievements.
He thinks the team could have done much better than this if it had not been the constant reliability issues throughout the season. The driver had to become the victim of several retirements, recently after starting from the pole, throughout the season. Hamilton
was of the opinion that he was in need of this victory more than anybody on the track that day. He said that he has worked hard despite dealing with the reliability problems and wants to carry on in the same way.
The race in Brazil will be the driver’s last with McLaren as he moves to Mercedes AMG replacing Michael Schumacher next year. He is not concerned about the result of the last race saying that he will be departing with satisfaction after the race in Austin.
He intends to thank everyone for their collective efforts back at the factory in England.
Hamilton will be replaced by Sauber F1’s Sergio Perez who already has his eyes set on winning the championship for the team next year.
