Lewis Hamilton says he is allowed to talk with Mercedes engineers – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has allowed him to talk with the Mercedes engineers, but insisted that he cannot involve in any technical work at present.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to expire at the end of this year and he has planned to move to the Silver Arrows in the next season where he will drive as Nico Rosberg’s teammate and will replace the seven-time world champion, Michael
Schumacher who has taken retirement from the sport.
The British driver is hoping to perform well with his new team and is eagerly looking forward to accept the new challenge. Moreover, he is aiming to take the Brackley based team to new heights.
Furthermore, he is very keen to develop good interaction with the team members of Mercedes. Therefore, Whitmarsh has allowed him to speak to his new team, but has not permitted him to get involved in any kind of technical operations.
“I won’t be doing much technical work with them but Martin says I’m allowed to talk to people,” Hamilton confirmed. “I’m expecting to see a great group of people who are determined as anything to win because they’ve not been winning.”
In addition, he said that his target is to win world championship with Mercedes and will work hard to achieve it in the future.
“I guarantee you that is not the case,” he said. “I don’t need to blow smoke up my own a**e. I know what I am capable of, although it won’t take a major effect until halfway through next season, although more so with car for 2014.”
“I look forward to having, like, a third of PR events that I have here,” he added.
The 2008 world champion has been one of the most competent contenders in this year’s championship, but he faced some technical issues in few races which gave his title hopes away. Nonetheless, he is not feeling disappointed and is positively eying to come
up stronger in the coming year.
Let’s see how the 27-year-old performs in the next season.
