Lewis Hamilton says he is happy with McLaren for now – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton is happy with McLaren for the current year and does not have any plans to leave the team in the near future.
Hamilton had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2011. For the first time in his career he stood behind his team-mate. Jenson Button came second in the standing in 2011.
The sounds of Jenson Button becoming the leading driver for the team must have played in the head of Hamilton along with other issues he had to deal with as on and off track issues hampered his season performance. The team supported him throughout his bad
patch helped him gain his lost confidence and with the season performance so far it seems that Hamilton has got his groove back and is performing up to his potential.
Hamilton’s contract ends with McLaren at the end of the 2012 season. Rumours of him being in talks with Red Bull were growing last year but he has stated that he does not plan to move from McLaren.
“It is not about being persuaded, I don't need persuading,” he was quoted by the Times. “But the team are doing fantastic. I could not be happier in the team. I am definitely consistent this year - consistently third. But I am happy, given the way we have
quite a few points and are still in the fight.”
“Everything is better this year,” Hamilton said. “The team is better, the car is better, I am a lot better and I have got my dad here [in China]. And that is not fake. We have a really good bond now. We are on the up. Things are great and that's reflected
in my performances.”
Hamilton has shown consistent performances so far in the season and has had 3rd place finishes in all three races. He is very much in contention for the Drivers’ title especially now that McLaren car has shown the strongest pace on track even though there
have been three different winners for all three races, McLaren is still considered the favourites for the Constructors’ title.
Hamilton will look to keep working with a team that now understands him and has a good relationship with him in order to get closer to title wins especially now that Red Bull is struggling to come up with wins in the 2012 season.
