Lewis Hamilton says he is not expecting an easy weekend in Silverstone – Formula 1 News
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is not expecting an easy weekend in Silverstone, but hopefully looking forward to perform well with an updated car.
Hamilton took an impressive start to this season and has performed convincingly well until now. However, he has faced some huge tyre management issues which hampered his performance in a couple of races.
Although, he said that he is not expecting any big step forward in the British Grand Prix, he expressed that they have planned to come up with some new components to improve their tyre management and are hoping to attain good results.
“I'm not really expecting us to have an easy weekend,” Hamilton said. “We've not really made a huge step since Barcelona; the last couple of races have been a little bit easier on the tyres so we definitely have made a small improvement
but I don't know if it's going to be good enough this weekend to come out ahead of the Red Bulls and the Ferraris. Time will tell. We definitely have some components that we've developed since Barcelona to help with the tyres so I'm hoping that they will help
this weekend.”
Besides, he said that even though he is quite behind his main rivals, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, he has got a car competent enough to strike back in the championship battle.
At present, the British driver is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 77 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and behind Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
He has secured three third podium finishes and one fourth place finish in the first seven races of the season. But, he has not been able to score a race victory in the season so far.
On the other hand, his teammate, Nico Rosberg is at 6th in the drivers’ championship with 57 points. Additionally, the German driver has completely outperformed the Briton in the qualifying and claimed an impressive
victory in the Monaco GP after securing his third consecutive pole position of the season.
Let’s see how the 2008 world champion performs in his home race this weekend.
