Lewis Hamilton says he still respects Felipe Massa despite Singapore GP incident – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has recently insisted that he still respects Ferrari’s Felipe Massa despite the fact that the two drivers went through a controversial incident at the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix this past weekend.
“He (Massa) was a bit angry... he was a bit forceful at the end, but I just ignored it and moved on. This is the most competitive sport in the world. And there are going to be instances like this. I have a lot of respect for Felipe still, regardless of how
he has behaved,” said Hamilton.
The two drivers collided at the Marina Bay Street Circuit during the race after which Felipe Massa gave some statements against the former Formula 1 world champion.
Hamilton had to face a lot of controversy and criticism as Massa also stated that this is not the first time this had happened to him. The 2008 world champion and Ferrari driver have collided a number of times on the track after which Massa claims that Hamilton
is the main reason why his Singapore Grand Prix run was ruined.
However, Hamilton went into an even worse position than Massa after the collision as he was given a drive through penalty as well. However, he still made his way up the grid and finished in 5th place in the end while the Brazilian
driver scored a disappointing 9th place.
Other than that, McLaren’s principal Martin Whitmarsh also stated that 2011 has not been a good year for Lewis Hamilton as he has not been able to perform consistently and that is something the Brit needs to work on.
Hamilton is an amazing driver and it is quite clear that his driving style is much different than many racers. All he needs to do is use this style in a more consistent way in order to score some good statistical results as well since Formula 1 is all about
statistics and without scoring good results, a performance is useless for a team at the end of the day.
