Lewis Hamilton says he was amazed by rapid car improvement in the Bahrain GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he was amazed by the rapid improvement in his car’s pace because of which he managed to secured fifth place finish
in the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix.
Hamilton performed amazingly well in the qualifying at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, but unfortunately he had to face a five-place penalty due to which
he started the race from 9th grid slot. Furthermore, he faced problem in his car during the first stint and fall off to 11th place. Nonetheless, he gained his pace back after the last pit stop and came 5th after delivering
an impressive performance towards the end of the race.
The British driver said that he was very much worried about his pace during the start of the race as he could not keep his pace consistent. However, he expressed
that he felt significant improvement in his pace during the second and third half of the race.
In addition, he said that he was comfortable behind the wheel of his car during the practice sessions but faced difficulties in qualifying. Moreover, he stated
that he expected to struggle throughout the race after the start. Nevertheless, he asserted that he got his pace back towards the end and was able to score some competitive points for his team.
"I had so much fun there," Hamilton said. "I was struggling like crazy at the beginning, I was nowhere; I was falling back and I just couldn't hold on to anyone.
All of a sudden, I don't know which stint it was - second or third stint - all of a sudden the car picked up. In practice the car was good but then in qualifying the car wasn't very good. It was almost like something reset and all of a sudden the car was back
to normal and I was able to chase and hint down everyone."
Besides, he said that he had a tough battle with Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing for the fifth position but he is really happy that he was determined enough to get
it in the end.
