Lewis Hamilton says his British GP victory was almost better than title win in 2008 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his British Grand Prix victory was almost better than winning the drivers’ championship in 2008.
Hamilton started his F1 career with McLaren in 2007. Even though, he won the championship in 2008 by just one point from his main rival, Felipe Massa of Ferrari. However, he has expressed that his home race win was better than his title victory.
“It was almost better than winning the World Championship just because it's your home grand prix,” Hamilton told BBC Radio 5 live ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix. “It's the race you dream of winning.”
“[My win] feels like a lifetime ago,” he said.
“The crowd was incredible. It was raining but the fans stuck it out. They got through it with me,” he added. “I've got a painting at home of me coming across the line - it's one of those historic races I'll never forget.”
“My British Grand Prix win is one of those historic races I'll never forget,” he said.
He left the Woking-based team at the end of 2012 and joined the Brackley based squad in this season. He has performed convincingly well in the season until now. At present, he is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 77 points. Furthermore,
he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and behind his major rival, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
He secured fifth place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne after taking a start from 3rd grid slot. Later, he showed a remarkable performance in Malaysia and China and successfully claimed third podium finish in both the races. Afterwards,
he came 5th in the Bahrain GP after taking a start from 9th grid position.
Although, he failed to score even a single point in the Spanish GP and could only secure 4th place finish in the Monaco GP even after qualifying for second grid slots in both the races. Nevertheless, he delivered an inspiring performance in the Canadian
GP and secured third podium finish.
Let’s see how he performs in this weekend’s race at Silverstone circuit.
