Lewis Hamilton says it is going to be a challenging free practice 3 at Spa – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren is of the view that it will be a challenging free practice 3 session at Spa, prior to the Belgian Grand Prix.
He said that it was very wet at Spa after the heavy rain but despite the rain a lot of drivers were running across the circuit. He added that due to the rain there was a lot of aquaplaning out there, therefore the drivers had to be very cautious.
Hamilton said, “It's been incredibly wet today - there were lots of rivers running across the track and lots of aquaplaning, so you had to be very wary out there.”
Furthermore, he said that there is not real benefit gained from pushing the car but there are things which one can learn from the experience, therefore they did a lot of installation laps to evaluate the performance of the upgrades they have introduced in
the Belgian GP and understand the performance of the tyres in the wet.
“There's no real benefit to be gained from pushing the car, but there are always things we can learn, so we did a couple of installation laps to check the effects of the upgrades we've brought to this race and see how the tyres switch on in the wet,” he
said.
Additionally, he said that it is expected to be challenging FP3 tomorrow for every driver. He added that if the rain stops then the drivers would be busy in setting up their cars during a couple of laps in FP3.
Besides, he said that it is great to be back on track. He added that a Formula 1 car would be fun to drive even if it were snowing, so he enjoyed every bit of the lap he had, yesterday.
Hamilton completed a total of 7 laps during the first two practice session. His fastest lap in FP1 was completed in 2 minutes 16.827 seconds.
It would be interesting to see the performance of drivers during Belgian GP because McLaren and Lotus are on second and third position respectively in the Constructors Champion. After the Belgian GP the close gap, with a difference of 1 point, might not
remain the same.
